Cenote Suytun Photo Guide
Best time for the light beam
The famous sunbeam at Cenote Suytun appears when the sun is high enough to shine through the ceiling opening onto the central stone platform, usually between 11am and 1pm. The effect is strongest in the dry season from January to March. It only happens on clear sunny days, never when overcast or raining.
How to get the iconic shot
Arrive early, around 10:30am, since a line forms to stand alone on the platform for photos. A staff member often manages turns. Use a wide angle lens to capture the full dome and the beam. Shoot in the morning light, expose for the beam and let the cave go darker for drama. A phone works, but a camera with manual control gives the best result.
